Coral Springs Police Department is investigating a shooting incident where a woman was injured after her boyfriend, who had been removed from a party, reportedly threatened to return and open fire.
On October 27, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a report of gunfire near the 7800 West Sample Road.
According to CSPD records, at approximately 1:45 a.m., dispatch received a call reporting gunshots and a red sedan speeding westbound on West Sample Road. Responding officers immediately identified a vehicle matching the caller’s description—a red 2017 Volkswagen Passat—near Coral Hills Drive and West Sample Road.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the report shows that officers encountered a driver, later identified as Kolby Alford, 24, of Coral Springs, and a woman, later identified as his girlfriend, inside the vehicle. Upon further investigation, the woman was found to have suffered a gunshot wound to her leg and was transported to Broward Health North by Coral Springs Fire Rescue for treatment.
Records show Alford told officers he had picked up his girlfriend from the party location on West Sample Road, where a verbal altercation ensued with three people in the parking lot, during which two of them allegedly brandished firearms and opened fire as he attempted to leave.
Alford claimed he was unarmed and did not participate in the shooting, but his girlfriend was shot.
The report shows that the initial caller told officers that she knew Alford and that she had invited him to a party she was hosting at the reported address but had asked him to leave around 11:23 p.m. due to intoxication. Shortly afterward, at approximately 12:45 a.m., she received a threatening text from Alford’s number stating, “Don’t even worry bout I shoot that [place] up” and indicating he was “on the way” back.
Investigation reports show that a database search later verified that the phone number sending the message was registered to Alford. The victim also provided CSPD with screenshots of the text exchange.
Alford was subsequently taken into custody for making written threats. Alford was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
