A social media post threatening to shoot students at Coral Glades High School and other local schools on Monday sparked alarm among local parents.
The message, shared by multiple people on Facebook, references school bullying and includes an explicit threat.
“We are aware of a supposed threat made on Instagram,” Coral Glades High School Assistant Principal Michele Stein wrote in an email to parents Monday morning. “The school district and the Coral Springs Police Department are investigating what appears to be a threat made to multiple schools with the same message. Our message has our name superimposed over the original school name. Coral Springs Police continue to investigate, and we will have additional personnel at our school today just in case. Please do not engage in any rumors or innuendo.”
Several parents shared the threatening post on social media and said they were keeping their children home from school.
“This is beyond scary,” one mother wrote on Facebook. “I just got woken up by my son who attends Coral Glades High School saying that this post has been going around social media…As a precaution, we will be keeping our son home.”
“If anyone has any information as to who posted this on social media, please contact the Coral Springs Police Department,” she wrote.
Coral Springs Police and Broward County Public Schools did not immediately provide additional information.
