A coalition of 40 current and former Democratic officials from Broward County — including local lawmakers Sen. Senator Tina Polsky and Rep. Dan Daley – have announced their support for former Republican U.S. Rep. David Jolly’s campaign for governor.
Polsky (D-Boca Raton), whose district includes Parkland, and Daley, (D-Coral Springs), were among 17 elected officials and 23 former officeholders to endorse Jully Thursday. The slate of politicos includes current and former elected officials from city, state, and county government. Among them: Broward Mayor Beam Furr, and former Broward Democratic Party Chairs Cynthia Busch and Mitch Ceasar.
Jolly lives in Pinellas County, where he represented Floridians in Congress from 2014 to 2017. According to his campaign website, Jolly is an attorney who grew up in Florida as the son of a pastor.
While in Congress, Jolly focused on helping veterans and seniors, supporting law enforcement, protecting the environment, and bringing resources back to Florida, according to his bio. He’s spent the last eight years as a political analyst on MSNBC.
A former Republican, Jolly is a vocal critic of President Donald Trump and the most prominent Democrat currently in the 2026 governor’s race.
He’s among more than two dozen candidates who have filed to run for governor, including Trump-endorsed U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds and former Florida House of Representatives Speaker Paul Renner.
According to Florida Politics, Republican Lt. Gov. Jay Collins and First Lady Casey DeSantis are also reportedly weighing 2026 gubernatorial bids.
Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is term-limited and can’t run again.
The gubernatorial primary will be held on August 18, 2026, and the general election will be held on November 3, 2026.
