Mayor Scott Brook getting sworn in as FLM president {City of Coral Springs}
By Bryan Boggiano
On Wednesday, the Florida League of Mayors (FLM) swore in and installed Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brook as president at their annual Business Meeting in Orlando.
The event featured current and past organization board members, mayors from around Florida, Coral Springs city commissioners, City Manager Frank Babinec, and City Attorney John Hearn, according to a press release.
In his position, Brook will encourage mayors from across Florida to work together to improve their communities and the state and advocate for mayors to pursue a platform of mental health awareness and advocacy within their communities.
Brook has spoken publicly about his passion and connection to mental health awareness. A 2021 city video featuring Brook addressing suicide prevention went on to win an Emmy Award and a Telly Award.
“I am committed to three primary objectives in my year as the President of the Florida League of Mayors: making sure our cities have resources to deal with the mental health crisis, sharing connection and best practices with mayors throughout the state, and regularly inviting our state leaders to hear from the mayors so we can collaborate much more than in the past,” Brook said.
Brook was first elected to the city commission in 2002. He was first elected mayor in 2006 and served through 2010.
In 2018, voters again elected Brook to that same position. In 2022, he was reelected without opposition.
Brook has been an FLM member for four years. This is his first election as president.
