Two local Sicilian Oven locations—Coral Springs and Lighthouse Point—have donated $1,000 to the Parkland 17 Memorial Foundation to help fund the official public memorial honoring the 17 lives lost in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
The foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was created to build a lasting tribute to the victims of the February 14, 2018, tragedy. The donation from Sicilian Oven supports that mission and helps move the project closer to completion.
“We are so appreciative of the generosity of Sicilian Oven in their support of the Memorial,” said Tony Montalto, vice chairman of the Parkland 17 Memorial Foundation, father of Gina Montalto, and liaison to the victims’ families.
Earlier this year, the foundation selected a memorial design by artist Gordon Huether. The circular concept features a central fountain and 17 limestone obelisks—each one engraved with a victim’s name and personal details. The design includes shaded seating areas with laser-cut canopies that cast symbolic shadows, as well as a poem etched into the plaza surface. A ring of 17 royal palm trees and a surrounding seating wall complete the tribute.
The victims honored are: Alyssa Alhadeff, Scott Beigel, Martin Duque Anguiano, Jr., Nicholas Dworet, Aaron Feis, Jaime Guttenberg, Chris Hixon, Luke Hoyer, Cara Loughran, Gina Montalto, Joaquin Oliver, Alaina Petty, Meadow Pollack, Helena Ramsay, Alex Schachter, Carmen Schentrup, and Peter Wang.
The memorial will be built in a 150-acre preserve along the border of Coral Springs and Parkland—a location chosen to reflect the unity of the two communities impacted by the tragedy.
To contribute to the project, donations can be made at parkland17.org/donate.
