Club Awesome Toastmasters, a local chapter of the international professional education organization Toastmasters, is working to overcome the challenges of hybrid meetings in a post-pandemic world.
The club’s leaders invite the public to attend their weekly Friday morning meetings to experience their innovative approach to hybrid meetings.
“If you’ve attended work or professional meetings conducted in a hybrid format — with some people online and others in person — you’ve probably experienced bad ones, plagued by poor preparation and technical glitches,” says David Carr, technology manager for the Club Awesome Toastmasters.
Carr joined Toastmasters to strengthen his communication skills and successfully adapted public speaking to online tools like Zoom through Online Presenters Toastmasters. He believes mastering hybrid meeting skills is essential for personal and professional development and encourages non-members to explore the opportunities Toastmasters offers.
Members like Paolo Barone, an importer of men’s tailored suits, appreciate the opportunity to speak to a variety of audiences online but also emphasize the importance of the energy that comes from speaking on stage.
The weekly meetings take place every Friday from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., either in person at the Panthers Ice Den in Coral Springs or via Zoom.
According to Carr, Club Awesome is committed to the hybrid format to retain members from outside the local area and those who find online attendance more convenient. The club leaders also recognize the value of in-person public speaking and want to maintain that aspect for their members.
To boost in-person attendance, Club Awesome offers breakfast monthly during their meetings. This Friday, attendees can enjoy breakfast while honing their public speaking and leadership skills.
Toastmasters is an organization that provides a platform for practicing public speaking and leadership skills. It had to navigate an abrupt transition to online meetings in 2020, followed by a tricky transition back to in-person or hybrid meetings.
For those interested in joining Club Awesome Toastmasters, visit the Panthers Ice Den in Coral Springs this Friday at 7 a.m. or join at the Club Awesome website.
