
Coral Springs High Air Force JROTC {William Ethridge}
The Coral Springs High School Air Force JROTC program won four awards at a drill and color guard competition on March 1 at Boyd Anderson High School.
The Colts were among 31 mostly Army JROTC programs. They earned third place for the female armed inspection platoon under Mindy Pham’s leadership and fourth for the male mixed unarmed exhibition squad under Erika Dorce. The unit also earned fourth place in the male mixed-armed exhibition platoon and fourth place in the male mixed-armed exhibition squad under Noah Jiron.
The 180 cadets who participated in JROTC learn leadership skills are expected to run much of the program.
“I have learned leadership skills and enjoyed the competitions,” said Katherine Kutsar, drill commander. A senior, she plans to study Biology next year at FIU.
According to Sgt. William Ethridge, senior instructor for the JROTC, students will have the opportunity to dual enroll with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and study basic aviation and aerospace science. Courses on drone technology will also be offered.
The Coral Springs cadets will travel to Osceola on March 28 and 29 to compete in an Air Force JROTC competition.
