After years of corporate request forms– along with a bit of wishing — Trader Joe’s is finally coming to Coral Springs.
For months, residents speculated about the move, and now that Trader Joe’s filed their site plans with the city, the proof is in the pudding. Make that Trader Joe’s famous Belgian Chocolate pudding, please.
But that’s not all.
Trader Joe’s will be located at 2792 N University Drive inside the retail space that housed Barnes & Noble. The store will be split, and Trader Joe’s will be side-by-side with another business.
This split is precisely what Gillian Johnson, marketing director with Amera Properties, confirmed in January.
She told Coral Springs Talk the 27,000 square foot space would be divided between Barnes & Noble and another tenant, who she could not name.
That same month, Coral Springs Talk emailed Kenya Friend-Daniel, director of public relations for Trader Joe’s, who said, “Yes, we are working to bring a Trader Joe’s location to Coral Springs. There’s not much else I can share at this time, as we are still early in the process/planning.”
Headquartered in Monrovia, California, Trader Joe’s has 505 locations as of April 2020. This includes Boca Raton, Pembroke Pines, Davie, Wellington, and Fort Lauderdale.
Residents who shop at Trader Joe’s rave about their low prices, unique brands, and excellent customer service. Their specialties include their Mandarin Orange Chicken, Creamy Spinach & Artichoke Dip, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, and their Belgian Chocolate Pudding.
While a typical grocery store may carry 50,000 items, Trader Joe’s stocks about 4,000 items — 80 percent of which bear one of its brand names. Foods include gourmet, organic, vegetarian, kosher, and unusual frozen foods. They also carry domestic and imported wine and beer.
In 2015, Coral Springs Talk took a poll to see if residents would like a Trader Joe’s in the city, and the response was overwhelming. We directed fans of the store to fill out their online location request form, and for five years, have been on a mission to get them to move to Coral Springs.
After all, driving to Davie or Boca Raton to shop at Trader Joe’s gets old.
In 2018, after creating the Bring Trader Joe’s to Coral Springs Florida Facebook Page, over 900 people now follow it.
Resident Andy Kasten said he is looking forward to having Trader Joe’s in the city.
“I’ve been to the Boca Raton location twice, and I thought this would be great for Coral Springs. I don’t want to drive out of my way to go there, but I’ll drive if it’s here.”
Below are submitted plans to the city. These renderings have not been officially approved.
