August is here, and back-to-school preparations are in full swing! Running until August 6, school supplies will be sales tax-free because of the Florida “Back to School Sales Tax Holiday.” Certain items such as notebooks, clothing, backpacks, and even certain computers will be available tax-free. Go shop today, and if possible, please consider buying extra to donate for those in need. The summer season has been great, but now it is time to make sure our students and teachers are ready for the new school year!
As a goal of the MAP Broward Mobility Advancement Program approved by voters, Broward County Transit is developing and implementing its new transportation Premium Mobility Plan (PREMO). Recently approved by the Commission, PREMO will seek to improve mobility and connectivity throughout the County, create equitable transit solutions, and serve all of Broward’s communities. This plan is essential for our County to continue to spur economic development and sustain our future growth. To view the plan along with interactive maps, submit feedback, and learn more about the future of transit in Broward County, visit www.broward.org/BCT/PREMO/.
Hurricane season is well underway, and now is the time to recheck your plan and restock your home in the event of a storm. Staying prepared and vigilant is key. Make sure you and your family (including pets) have all the necessary food, supplies, and medications needed if a storm comes our way. If you are a resident at-risk, now is the time to make sure you are registered for Broward County’s Vulnerable Population Registry or Special Needs Shelters. All residents should sign up for Broward’s emergency notification system, AlertBroward, in addition to your city’s community alert system. Visit Broward.org/Hurricane to register and find all the info you need to be Storm Ready.
Visit Lauderdale’s “Dine Out Lauderdale” program is back and ready to tempt your taste buds this month with great deals and even better flavors. With participants from across the cuisine spectrum, you will have the opportunity to try a diverse range of food and drinks while supporting our local businesses in Broward County. Restaurants provide a pre-set menu to choose from that is included for a reduced price, usually with an appetizer, main course, and dessert. Check out visitlauderdale.com/dineout to see all the participating restaurants and enjoy your new favorite eatery or an old favorite!
