A road rage incident turned violent, causing a victim to stab his assailant multiple times, leaving the man fighting for his life.
According to records, on November 15, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a distress call at the Coral Springs Plaza located at 5431 North University Drive around 8:32 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to a victim who reported a driver, later identified as Jason Aucoin, 49, of Coral Springs, had been following him in his vehicle for some time.
The victim told officers the situation grew physical after he pulled into the medical plaza and Aucoin opened his door and struck him twice. The victim, who exhibited visible injuries at the time of the officer’s arrival, reported that, in turn, he defended himself by stabbing Aucoin multiple times.
According to the report, Aucoin ran away but stayed within the medical center, where medical workers began tending to him before Coral Springs Fire Rescue responded to the scene.
Aucoin was transported to Broward Health North to receive medical attention for severe stab wounds.
In the aftermath of the incident, investigators found surveillance footage from the medical plaza that showed an aggressive confrontation between the victim, ending in the eventual stabbing.
After viewing the footage, law enforcement determined the victim had a reasonable cause to believe that his life was in danger, justifying the use of force for self-defense. Consequently, an arrest affidavit was filed, charging Aucoin with first-degree assault.
However, due to Aucoin’s medical condition and intubation at Broward Health North, the execution of the arrest was delayed until December 13, when he was taken into custody.
Aucoin now faces first-degree assault charges. He was released from custody after posting a $50,000 bond.
