A woman is facing aggravated battery charges after allegedly striking her boyfriend in the head with a baseball bat following accusations of infidelity.
On January 3, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Coral Springs Police Department responded to a report of domestic violence in the parking lot of a business located at 11000 Wiles Road. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male victim profusely bleeding from his forehead and a woman, later identified as Stephanie Schmidt, 33, of Coral Springs, who was involved in a physical altercation.
According to the report, the victim alleged that he and Schmidt, his girlfriend at the time, had been arguing during their drive home from the beach after she found another woman’s information when searching the victim’s cellphone and accusing him of infidelity.
The victim stated that, to de-escalate the situation, once Schmidt exited the car, he locked her out. However, she then began kicking and punching the vehicle, ultimately ripping off its license plate and throwing it to the ground.
Records show the victim alleges at some point, Schmidt retrieved a baseball bat from the back of the vehicle, which made him fear that she might do severe damage to his truck. At this point, he exited the car as well and attempted to disarm her but was struck in the head with the bat, causing a severe laceration.
Responding officers observed the victim bleeding heavily from his forehead, and emergency medical personnel treated the victim at the scene. The victim also provided officers with video footage of the altercation.
When interviewed, Schmidt claimed that the argument began inside the vehicle and turned physical, alleging that the victim had struck her. She said she exited the car to distance herself but began banging on the doors to retrieve personal property.
Arrest records show Schmidt admitted to retrieving the baseball bat and striking the victim after he exited the vehicle.
Officers observed minor abrasions on Schmidt’s hands, chin, and forehead. She claimed these injuries resulted from the altercation. The victim denied hitting her, suggesting she may have sustained the injuries while punching the vehicle or during their struggle over the bat.
Schmidt was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. She was later released after posting $2,500 bond.
