Man Accused of Attacking Woman’s Car With Metal Scooter, Biting Coral Springs Police Officer

A man is accused of attacking a woman’s car with a metal scooter while she was locked inside, then biting a police officer during his arrest.

According to a Coral Springs Police Department probable cause affidavit, officers responded to the 11100 block of Royal Palm Boulevard on August 18 after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.

Police said the woman’s mother initially called authorities after the woman asked her to contact police. The woman was reportedly seated inside her vehicle while a man, later identified as Junior Bastien, 36, of Miami, was repeatedly striking the vehicle with a metal scooter, including the driver’s-side door and window.

When an officer arrived, police said he personally witnessed Bastien “actively and aggressively” using the scooter as a weapon to strike the vehicle. Bastien allegedly still had the scooter raised in both hands when the officer approached, but complied with commands to drop it and was placed in handcuffs.

The woman told police she asked others to call 911 while in the car and began recording the confrontation as evidence, according to the report.

The woman told investigators she remained locked inside because she feared Bastien would break the window, gain access to her, and physically harm or kill her.

The confrontation continued after Bastien was taken into custody.

According to police, Bastien refused multiple commands to enter a patrol vehicle, sat down, and then lay on the ground to prevent officers from placing him inside. He allegedly hooked his feet beneath the vehicle’s undercarriage while resisting officers’ efforts to move him.

Bastien was later transported to a Broward Health facility, where police said he spit on an officer and, during an ensuing struggle to restrain him, allegedly bit another officer.

Bastien was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
