Former Coral Springs Charter stars Emily Estroff and Gianna Boccagno announced where they would play their final year of college softball.

Due to COVID-19 canceling most of the 2020 season, all student-athletes were given an extra year of eligibility.

Estroff, a 2018 graduate from Coral Springs Charter, is set to play at Liberty University in Virginia after a terrific run with both Villanova and Florida Gulf Coast.

“To be able to learn and be coached by some of the best in the country is something I am so excited about. They are a great program, and I know I will be pushed to be my best every single day. I will grow athletically, academically, and spiritually.

The two-way player had one of the most historic seasons in the Panthers’ history, helping lead them to a State Championship under legendary coach Mark Montimurro.

She picked up 28 wins on the mound, including a no-hitter and perfect game, and had an era of 1.32 while striking out 201 hitters. She also hit .432.with seven extra-base hits, drove in 23 runs, and would start her college career mainly as a hitter.

During her two years at FGCU, Estroff hit over .329 as a sophomore and junior before she became one of the team’s top pitchers as a senior. She helped knock off nationally ranked Texas in their third game of the season.

Estroff has also been working with local athletes and coaches alongside softball coach Mark Montimurro and the VSA Lions this summer when she is not playing.

“I take a lot of pride in growing up playing in South Florida, and I hope to have helped the girls I’ve worked with, even if it is in a small capacity,” Estroff added. “It is something I look forward to doing even when my career is done.”

Boccagno graduated from Coral Springs Charter in 2018 and won four State Championships as a catcher. She will finish her college career at Arizona State University. She started her college career at Boston College and hit 22 home runs and drove in 58 RBIs.

The Sun Devils went 43-11 this past season and made it to the Super Regionals before falling to Northwestern University.

“Gianna will provide a valuable veteran presence behind the dish and in the clubhouse,” said Head Coach Megan Bartlett in a press release. She’s a selfless teammate and takes pride in building relationships with each of her pitchers. Gianna is an excellent receiver with a big arm. We’re thrilled to welcome her to Tempe.”
