Students in the third through fifth grade at Saint Andrew Catholic School completed their Second Annual Learning Arcade Project, and will soon be showing it off to their parents.
Inspired by the viral video Caine’s Arcade, the school has made a shift in student learning to include more project based activities. In this particular project, they created, designed, and built a gaming arcade using recycled materials, academic content, and lots of energy and creativity.
Students enjoy working on these types of projects because they say they are fun and they get to create things while they learn.
Their first rendition of the Learning Arcade project was in 2014 as teachers and students joined in the Global Cardboard Challenge, an experience so positive that it is now part of the curriculum in grades three through five.
“Our students work hard on this cross-curricular project and are excited to share their products and experiences with the entire school community and with parents,” said fifth grade teacher Renee Sarmiento.
Saint Andrew Catholic School is located in Coral Springs, Florida.
