The Mayors’ Chess Challenge, a free event making stops throughout Broward County, is making its way to the City of Parkland.
Held on Saturday, February 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the event is open to everyone regardless of age, playing level, or even beginner status.
This free and friendly series of meet-ups, spearheaded by Sunrise Mayor Michael Ryan in cooperation with Mayors from throughout Broward County, draws attention to the benefits of chess in both the academic environment and in our community. It also is a great vehicle to bring together elected officials, community leaders, students and families. Instructors will be on hand to help those new to the game and provide pointers to those familiar with it.
Since September, the Mayors’ Chess Challenge has visited Davie, Weston, Sunrise, Tamarac, Coconut Creek, and Coral Springs. After its stop in Parkland, it will continue to Wilton Manors, Hallandale Beach, Lauderhill, Cooper City, Oakland Park, Lauderdale Lakes and Fort Lauderdale before headig to Pembroke Pines in May.
The event will be held at the Parkland Recreation and Enrichment Center (P-REC) at 10599 Trails End in Pine Trails Park. Map it.
