Coral Springs Charter Panthers Secure Three Seed in Upcoming District Championships

With just four games to go, Coral Springs Charter School looks to close out the regular season on a high note before heading into district championships.

The Panthers finished up conference play with a record of 6-4 and will have the three seed in the district regionals that will be played at North Broward Prep in early May. They do not know as of yet who they will be facing as the remaining teams battle it out for seeding.

Having just won two games out of the in the last eight, head coach Charlie Fine remains extremely positive through the tough stretch, despite the amount of injuries the Panthers are dealing with.

“We don’t make excuses,” said Fine. “We got a lot of guys out, but nobody is going to feel bad for us. They’re going to come at us with the best of the best. Our district is still the toughest in the country. It’s next man up.”

After starting the season off 9-0 and having tremendous success on the mound, it has been the pitching that has hurt the Panthers. In each of their last three losses, they have combined to give up 35 runs.

Even with struggle on the mound, the Panthers still have three guys with batting averages over .300. One of those guys is Justin Chung, who has missed the past two games with a leg injury. Chung hopes to get back into the lineup for the team’s next game on Thursday and be well prepared for the postseason.

Despite a rough outing Tuesday night vs North Broward Prep, Matt Magrann continues to pitch to an earned run average right around a run per game. Carl Lassalle and Chris Kahler have also contributed with positive starts keeping opponents to an average of five runs per game this season.

Coming up for the Panthers, they will play the Piper Bengals. After three days off, they will play Highlands Christian, who have struggled this year. They come in with just six wins in 18 game overall before closing the season against Westminster Academy and Belen Jesuit.

“We are looking to finish the season strong,” said Chung. “Hopefully winning the final four games and doing well in districts. We are going to continue to keep a positive mindset and go at it during practice every day.”
