A former Boynton Beach police officer was sentenced for possessing child pornography on June 4.
Gabriel Albala, 45, of Margate, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for possession of child pornography, which included images of children under age 12 engaged in sex acts.
In addition to finding child pornography on his home computer, images of children were reportedly found on his cellphone.
The initial arrest and eventual conviction came as the result of a bust of a man who was caught selling child pornography on the internet.
A search of the man’s seller records included financial transactions and other information that led law enforcement to Albala.
A search warrant of Albala’s home turned up a computer with ample evidence to warrant an arrest, and eventually, a sentence of two-and-a-half years behind bars.
After his sentence, Albala will serve five years in supervised custody and must register as a sex offender.
Initially arrested in 2019, Albala pled guilty in January to all charges. At the time of his arrest, the FBI indicated they had Albala in custody on federal child pornography charges, and he was being held at the Broward jail.
