A homeless man, registered as a sexual predator with a violent history, was arrested for failing to report in person with Broward County Sheriff’s Officer every 30 days.
On July 21 at 10:21 a.m., Julio Almodovar Nazario, 54, was found by Coral Springs Police in a storage closet at Mainland China Bistro located at 2445 North University Drive. Officers arrived after responding to a call about Nazario allegedly pulling out his “privates” at Regents Bank nearby.
Nazario, however, was released at the scene without incident.
A little more than an hour later, CSPD was called about Nazario allegedly walking north on University drive near the intersection of the Sawgrass Expressway while throwing things at cars and pulling down his pants to expose his penis to drivers. He then laid down in the grass on the northbound lanes of University Drive.
Because he didn’t have identification, Nazario was identified by officers from his photo on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Sexual Offender/Predator website. He allegedly was released from Miami-Dade County Jail on June 16 and was registered as “transient.”
Because Nazario hadn’t registered by July 17 with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office as a sex offender, he was arrested on third-degree felony charges due to not registering with the county.
According to the police report, CSPD patrol officers had previously encountered Nazario on July 20 at the Wendy’s on University drive after they were called because Nazario was tearing down the promotional signs at the restaurant and threatening the manager with a stick. He was barred from the property as a result.
Noted in the police report was the fact that Nazario was convicted of a sexual offense against a child under the age of 12 and had two prior arrests for failure to register as a Sex Offender/Predator. Also, Nazario has an extensive and violent criminal history, and therefore officers determined he was a danger to the community.
