A woman who grew up in the city with everything under the sun and graduated from Coral Springs Charter School has realized her dream of one day sitting on the city commission.
On Tuesday, Metayer beat five other candidates seeking to fill Commissioner Larry Vignola’s Seat 3 after being term-limited.
Metayer ran against Randal Cutter, Noor Fawzy, Andy Kasten, Joe Morera, and Abel Pena.
Metayer won with 18,872 votes — or 32.3 percent, and Cutter was second with 17,873 or 30.6 as of 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
An environmental scientist and former member of the Broward County Soil and Water Conservation District, 32-year-old Metayer has kept busy in public service by lending her talents to two Coral Springs committees that address residents’ environmental and consumer concerns.
Metayer’s platform includes working together as a community to reimagine the economic growth, public safety, and environmental sustainability of Coral Springs.
After her win was confirmed before 8:30 p.m., Metayer thanked her team, her family, and her Creator for giving her the strength to campaign, especially during a pandemic.
“Young people are the future, and they carried me in my campaign. I can’t wait to serve Coral Springs. I can’t wait to make this an even better place to live and for everyone in Coral Springs to feel safe.”
