Representative Dan Daley, D-Coral, Springs, filed HB 531 Tax Credit Program, which will provide a credit against the corporate income tax to a business or an organization that employs a degree-seeking student for an internship.
Senator Shevrin Jones’s D-West Park, SB 258, filed the Senate companion.
Rep. Daley, who represents Coral Springs, Tamarac, Sunrise, and Plantation, said the legislation would encourage businesses to provide students with opportunities to advance their knowledge and experience and prepare them for a career or trade after college.
“This tax credit program will benefit all parties,” he said. “Florida businesses will be incentivized to seek diverse, new talent, and college students will be able to receive hands-on training in their area of study and be provided an opportunity that they may not be able to afford otherwise.”
On Thursday, he presented the bill to the Post-Secondary Education & Lifelong Learning Subcommittee in Tallahassee, where it passed unanimously. Next up, the bill must pass the House Ways & Means Committee, Education & Employment Committee, and the Appropriations Committee.
