Closed in February of 2020, employees said it was the end of the road for the beloved 20-year-old Coral Springs Barnes & Noble.
Amera Properties, the commercial real estate management company for The Walk, said they intended to work with them to reopen a smaller store at the same location, matching Barnes & Noble’s new business model and format.
The former 27,000 square-foot location at 2790 N University Dr was split into two, with Trader Joe’s leasing the north side at 2796 N University Dr and Barnes & Noble to move next door.
The expectation was the closure would be only six months. Then the pandemic came, and after that, nothing was certain.
On Thursday, confirmation was received that Amera Properties is finalizing the lease.
“We are very close to achieving that objective, and we are all eager to have them re-open,” said Gillian Johnson, marketing director for Amera Properties.
There is no opening date at this time; however, construction will soon be underway. Barnes & Noble is actively seeking bids on construction work, a source told us, and there is an open permit with the City of Coral Springs.
Although Barnes & Noble will be half the size, they will pack a lot in. They will focus more on books, have a café inside serving Starbucks coffee, and sell an assortment of non-book items, like greeting cards.
The new stores would be about 14,000 square feet, making them roughly 12,000 sq. ft. smaller than the chain’s typical stores.
