Cheering crowds of city staff lined up outside Coral Springs school entrances to applaud and show their appreciation for the valuable contributions teachers provide — especially throughout the pandemic.
“We wanted to do something special to show our appreciation for their service and sacrifice,” said City Manager Frank Babinec. “Senior management created an event through our city’s employee volunteer leave program where they could sign up to ‘Clap In’ educators as part of Teacher Appreciation Week.”
More than 150 employees signed up to participate, and employees visited 22 schools in the city — even bringing a banner to hang inside as a reminder the city supports its teachers.
The entire city commission got into the act as well, with Mayor Scott Brook at Westchester Elementary and Sawgrass Springs Middle, Vice Mayor Joshua Simmons at Ramblewood Elementary and Coral Springs Middle, Commissioner Shawn Cerra at Ramblewood Middle and Coral Glades High, Commissioner Nancy Metayer at Forest Glen Middle and Coral Springs Charter, and Commissioner Joy Carter at JP Taravella High.
