J.P. Taravella’s Chris Scinta committed to play at the University of Miami in 2020 before his sophomore season on the varsity baseball team.
His stock has only risen since his decision, and while he has enjoyed his time playing at JPT, the thought of attending Miami is special.
“Being a Hurricane means representing the culture you grew up in,” said Scinta. “On my visit this weekend, I put on the Canes jersey, and I’ve never felt more pride.”
During his junior year, Scinta pitched to an ERA of 0.95 going 6-2 and striking out 68 batters in 44.1 innings. With eight career wins, he contributed offensively as well. He is a lifetime .370 hitter and has a home run along with 21 career RBI’s.
For Scinta, he says he takes the field every day for the late Athletic Director Jason Stein. He said Coach Joe Giummule has helped him mature and turn into the player he is today and believes he would not be where he was if it wasn’t for the support from his parents Lisa and Cos, and brother Cosi.
Scinta plays one more year on the JPT baseball team before enrolling at Miami next fall.
He will be joining a program that has won four National Championships and been the runner-up twice since 1973. They are coming off a season where they made the NCAA tournament after going 33-21 in 2021
