A local matchup between Coral Springs Charter and J.P. Taravella, an undefeated start, and a walk-off victory highlighted the second week of the high school baseball season.
After two losses to begin the week, Coral Springs Charter knocked off J.P. Taravella 6–2 for the Panthers’ second victory of the season. The Trojans scored runs in each of the first two innings to take a 2–0 lead, but CSC responded by scoring the game’s final six runs — four in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh — aided in part by five Taravella errors.
Chris Lora, Jack Jordan, and Jaxon Krugman each recorded RBIs, while Nolan Miankowski tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn the win. The Panthers improved to 2–3 and will face Nova High School on Monday, February 23 at 6 p.m. in the opening round of the BCAA Tournament.
J.P. Taravella also dropped a 6–0 decision to Chaminade-Madonna before bouncing back with a dominant 10–0 victory over McArthur High School on Friday night. Ryan Dolan threw five shutout innings, allowing only two hits, while Nicholas Vizquel homered and Jeremiah McFarland led the offense with three RBIs. The Trojans will next play West Broward High School on Monday, February 23 at 6:30 p.m.
Coral Glades remained perfect on the season, winning all three games this week to improve to 5–0. In a pitchers’ duel, the Jaguars opened the week with a 1–0 extra-inning victory over NSU University School. Jason Lincoln pitched six scoreless innings and struck out eight, while Charlie Beaty drove in the game’s only run in extras.
A four-run fifth inning broke a 2–2 tie in Coral Glades’ next game, leading to a 6–2 win over Mater Lakes Academy. Beaty started and pitched four innings before Johan Martin Del Campo earned the win with three scoreless frames. Enzo Hernandez hit an inside-the-park home run and added a triple.
The Jaguars finished the week with a 4–1 win over Charles W. Flanagan High School. After falling behind 1–0, Coral Glades scored twice in both the third and fifth innings. Hernandez continued his strong week with another home run and a two-run double, while Sebastian Duran added an RBI. Tyler Wojtynek allowed one run across four innings to earn the win, and Logan Miller followed with three hitless innings out of the bullpen.
Coral Glades will face Cooper City High School in the opening round of the BCAA Tournament on Monday, February 23, at 5:30 p.m.
Coral Springs High School also won all three of its games during the week, beginning with an 11–0 victory over Monarch High School before rallying for a walk-off 4–3 win against Saint Andrew’s School. Marcus Crespo drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the winning run, while Ryan Guthrie, Diego Avila, and Jordan Guzman each recorded RBIs earlier in the game. Aiden Roy earned the win in relief, throwing 4.2 hitless innings with nine strikeouts after Alqin Ducasse recorded the first 10 outs.
The Colts later erased a 3–0 deficit against Bonita Springs High School by scoring the next 12 runs en route to a 15–5 victory. Brandon Matlock powered the offense with a home run and six RBIs, while Painter struck out nine over 5.1 innings to earn the win. Coral Springs will next play Charles W. Flanagan High School on Monday, February 23 at 6 p.m.
