High school baseball teams were in action during a busy week at the BCAA Championship, highlighted by a tournament title from Coral Springs High School in their division.
Ryan Guthrie led the Colts to a victory in the opening game, pitching 3.1 innings while also driving in three runs in a 10–3 win over Charles W. Flanagan High School. After scoring six runs in the second inning, the Colts extended their advantage to 10 runs by the fourth.
Brandon Matlock, Dallas Searcy, and Adrian Sousa each drove in runs during the victory. CSHS followed with a 12–4 win over Nova High School to advance to the championship game. Marcus Crespo and Diego Avila each recorded three RBIs, while Aiden Roy tossed six strong innings and struck out eight batters.
The Colts captured the championship with a 6–1 victory over Pembroke Pines Charter on Friday. Aneglo Painter threw a complete game and struck out six batters. Adrian Sosa drove in three runs, while Luis. Comella and Avila each added an RBI. Guthrie finished with two doubles and scored twice, matching Wheeler with two runs scored. CSHS improved to 7–1 this season and will face Cooper City High School on Monday, March 2, at 6 p.m.
Coral Glades opened the tournament with a 5–3 win over Cooper City High School. Enzo Hernandez drove in two runs, while Jason Lincoln threw a complete game, striking out nine and allowing just two earned runs. The Jaguars suffered their first loss of the season, 5–2 to Pembroke Pines Charter, but rebounded to finish third with a 6–4 victory over Nova High School.
After trailing 3–0, Coral Glades scored five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a pair of RBIs from Logan Miller. Diego Gonzales earned the win, recording seven of his eight outs via strikeout. The Jaguars will next face North Broward Prep on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m.
Coral Springs Charter fell 8–7 to Nova High School despite a late rally. The Panthers trailed by one run in the sixth inning before scoring three runs to take the lead, but surrendered it shortly afterward. They responded by scoring 22 runs across their next two games, defeating Charles W. Flanagan High School 11–3 and Cooper City High School 11–1 to secure third place.
Rodney Chung homered and drove in three runs in the win over the Falcons, while Mateo Guzman earned the victory. Edward Canard picked up the win in the final game, tossing six innings and allowing only one run. Nolan Mianowski and Chung each drove in two runs as the Panthers improved to 4–4 on the season.
They will play Cypress Bay High School on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m.
J.P. Taravella was shut out 11–0 in its opening game against West Broward High School, managing only three hits. Despite taking a 2–1 lead against Cypress Bay High School, the Trojans allowed seven unanswered runs and fell 8–2. Julian Classen and Jake Miller each recorded RBIs. JPT then lost 11–4 to Western High School in its final game of the tournament, dropping to 3–6 on the season.
The Trojans will face Deerfield Beach High School on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m.
