RECAP: Postseason High School Swimming in Coral Springs

Coral Springs continues a fantastic fall season of swimming, with three schools competing in the postseason.

Coral Springs Charter

The Coral Springs Charter swim team shined during the District Tournament at the Coral Springs. Aquatic Center on Friday and will have nine swimmers heading to Regionals.

The boys’ team, who finished sixth overall, will have Brian Hamilton and Anthony Palumbo moving on. Hamilton advanced in the 50-yard free and 100-fly, while Palumbo will compete in the 100-backstroke.

The girls came in fourth place and will have three relay teams in Regionals. The Panthers advanced in the 200-yard medley consisting of Samantha Springier, Gaby Bautista, Riley McCormick, and Alejandra Gil Restrepo. They also qualified in the 200-free with Amanda Robins, Riley Floyd, Addison Palumbo, Samantha Springer, and the 400-yard freestyle with Gil Restrepo, Robins, Bautista, and McCormick.

Individually, McCormick qualified in the 50-free and 100-fly. Gil Restrepo shined in the 200 and 500 free, while Addison advanced in the 500-free.

Next, CSC will compete in Regionals on Friday, Nov 4. at Nova High School.

Coral Glades

Coral Glades‘ boys swim team had a pair of relay teams competing in Regionals with Sherwin Sterling, William Overfelt, Alexander Zapata, and Kenneth Rattray, as well as Alexander Zapata, Kenneth Ratway, Matthew Feuss, and Doyle.

Individually, Doyle shined to be the top five in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. William Overfelt raced in a pair of meets, while Zapata had his best result in the 500-yard freestyle.

The girls had three relays compete, with Kaitlyn Bonasera, Camryn Meyer, Sabrina Hartung, and Cassia Flynn coming in sixth in the 200-yard free relay. Individually, Flynn finished third in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 50-yard free.

Camryn Meyer, Courtney Hartung, Cassia Flynn, Sabrina Aran, and Emma Jeffries raced for the Jaguars.

J.P. Taravella

Competing in the same championship as Coral Glades, J.P. Taravella placed second and third in relay races. The swimmers in the 200-yard relay were Mason Green, Miles Green, R.J. Martin, and Mekhi Dawkins, and Mason, RJ, Miles, and Mekhi Dawkins competed in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Mason and Miles also finished runner-up in two races. Martin had a pair of top-8 finishes, along with great races from Zane Samms and Dawkins.

The girls swam in three relays and had their best race come in the 200-yard medley with Savannah Dailey, Morgan Thomas, Mariana Sanchez, and Mercy McLemore. Thomas, Jordan Weintraub, McLemore, Dailey, Joslyn Brown, Victoria Sosa, Dani Germendia, and Mariana Sanchez, who competed in the other two relays.

Individually, McLemore finished tenth in the 50-yard freestyle and 12th in the 100-yard butterfly, while Thomas raced in the 200-yard freestyle.
