It was a night dedicated to the seniors at Coral Springs Charter, with the volleyball and swimming teams holding their Senior Day.
Volleyball
The Panthers continued their historic season with a win on Senior Night 25-5, 25-15, 15-10 against Don Soffer Aventura High School. CSC also honored Alexandra Bruno, Sidney Berthiaume, Sydney Mills, Brittney Stella, Sarah Henault, and Julia Dicaprio before picking up their 13th win in 16 matches this year, with the seniors leading the way.
Bruno continued her incredible season with 18 more kills and now has 284 this year. Berthiaume and Stella combined for 13 kills, while Mills had 31 assists. Henault recorded a team-high nine digs in the match, and DiCaprio had a kill playing in all three sets.
CSC had two more matches this week and reached the Semifinals of the Big Eight Tournament. They finished the regular season with a record of 14-4. The Panthers start the District Tournament as the two seed and will face Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in the quarterfinals on Monday, Oct 17, at 6 p.m. They come in with a record of 5-7 but have lost three of their last four matches.
Swimming
The Panthers honored four swimmers from their girl’s team and also picked up a win over Monarch and Somerset.
CSC recorded 117 points which was 92 more than the Knights. They also honored their four seniors, Riley McCormick, Gaby Bautista, Giovanna Taibl, and Sharmeen Shivji.
“I remember telling them when they were so little, ‘I will be sure to still be coaching when you girls graduate, and here we are,” Head Coach Sheri Wells. “They have been a true pleasure to coach through all these years, and I’m really going to miss them.”
CSC placed first in the 200 Medley, 200 Free, and 400 Free Relay. McCormick finished first in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Fly, while Gaby Bautista came in first in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle.
Emma Baker placed first in the 200 indivisible medley and 500 Freestyle. Addison Palumbo finished second in the 500 meters, and Riley Floyd also had a top-three finish,
The boys team didn’t have any seniors but still swam well and came in second place behind Monarch. They won a pair of relays and also got terrific performances from Brian Hamilton, Jorge Aguila, Anthony Palumbo, and Jack Maniscalco.
Next, CSC is set to compete in the Broward Country Athletic Association Champiojsbhop on Thursday, Oct 13, at the Coral Springs Aquatic Center.
