In the 2010-11 season, the Coral Springs High School girls basketball team did not win a single game. Nearly 12 years later, the Lady Colts are set to play for a Regional Championship after defeating Boca Raton Community High School in the Semifinals on Tuesday.
Leading the way offensively was Rhael Sayers, who had a game-high 31 points. She called it a team effort and felt that they deserved the win.
“We especially wanted it for our four talented seniors, Jourdin Gayle, Shemeka Mapp, Cynthia Pierre-Louis, and Carissa Marthy,” she said. “The game was also fueled by other key players Ermani Lewis, Trinety Dajuste, and Madisun Hill.”
CSHS also picked up their 21st win of the season and got their revenge against the Wildcats after their loss in the same round in 2020.
“I’m very proud of the girls; we were down and fought the entire game,” said Brenton Hankerson, head coach.
The Lady Colts head into the Regional Final, having already won a holiday tournament and a District Championship. They also beat Doral Academy in the Regional Quarterfinals and will play Miami Senior High School in the Championship Game on Friday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m.
The Stingarees come into the game with a record of 22-5 and are the top seed in the Region. They also won a District Championship and beat Cypress Bay and Palmetto High School to reach the final.
