
Heather Robertson Wins MVP of Big-8 Championship. {BCAA}
Coral Springs had several teams competing in regionals, as one team was still alive for a championship.
The Coral Springs Charter softball team beat Mater Lakes Academy 15-0 to advance to the Regional Semifinals. Gio Gurgel hit the lone home run for the Panthers while Mia Rodriguez also drove in four runs. Addi Michel and Courtney Wahlbrink drove in two, along with one from Gia Schirripa and Heather Roberston. Sophia Bertorelli pitched two shutout innings, with Emma Ruiz also tossing a scoreless inning.
CSC is 22-3 after previously winning the District and Big-8 Championship.. They are set to face St. Brendan High School in their next game on Tuesday, May 13, at 6 p.m. The Sabres are 15-11 this year and beat Pompano Beach High School 9-0 in their first Regional game after losing 10-0 against Somerset Academy in the District Final. The winner of this game will play either Somerset Academy or Cardinal Gibbons High School in the Regional Final on May 15 at 7 p.m.
The Coral Glades softball team also played in Regionals but lost 11-1 against Western High School. This game was a rematch of the District Final, which the Wildcats also won 11-1 after the Jagiars beat Marjory Stoneman Douglas in their opening game. Briana Escobar drove in the only run for the Jaguars, while Dilynn Douge also had a hit. Haliegh Thomas and Addison Scharzberg each pitched, and the Jaguars finished the season 10-12.
Escobar ended the year with four of the team’s five home runs, 33 RBIs, and a team-high .467 batting average. Cameron Marques also homered and drove in 14 runs, along with 12 from Dominque Soto and Schwartzberg. Their lone senior on the team is Isabella Noriega.
The Coral Springs High School boys volleyball team won the District Championship and lost 25-5, 25-11, 25-10 to top-seeded Sunocast High School, with Joel Jobi recording two kills and completing the season with 303. Miguel Jumpp and Fabrico Monaco added one while Jumpp, Princeton Munroe Jr., Mickinsean Jean-Mary, and Dsziano Barrett-Daly all had two blocks, with Jean-Mary adding four assists. The Colts finished the season 11-8 and will have Fabrico Monaco, Joel Jobi, and Mickinson Jean-Mary all graduate this year.
