A simple act of friendship turned into a meaningful gesture for a longtime Coral Springs resident.
Nadia Spence and Frieda Staudinger share more than just a hallway in the Briarwood Four condominium building—they share a bond.
Knowing that Frieda, 93, had lived there for nearly 50 years and consistently paid her dues, Spence felt she deserved a reserved parking space as a token of appreciation.
Initially, the condominium board denied Spence’s request, fearing it would set a precedent. Undeterred, Spence took action, gathering support from fellow residents through a petition. Her persistence paid off. A newly elected board—including Spence—reviewed the bylaws and found that original owners were indeed eligible for reserved parking spaces. The board is expected to approve Frieda’s space on Monday, March 10.
Frieda, an independent woman, has never sought recognition. She moved to Coral Springs from Long Island with her husband, Frank, in 1971, when the city was still a small town with just 5,000 residents.
“When we moved here, there were large open spaces and gravel roads. We all got to know each other and became friends,” she recalled.
The couple initially lived in another Briarwood building before settling into their current home. Frank, employed by Westinghouse, was relocated to South Florida, making them the first family to purchase a condominium in Briarwood Four.
A lifelong tennis enthusiast, Frieda also taught yoga and worked in real estate. She often played at the Country Club of Coral Springs and Broken Woods Country Club. Even after Frank’s passing, she remained active in the community and continues to enjoy dining out and socializing.
She will celebrate her 94th birthday in August.
