Coral Springs Police on Wednesday will ask city commissioners to approve a purchase for $91,000 worth of new bullets.
According to city records, police officials have determined that two specific ammunition brands – Speer and Federal – will best meet officers’ needs for training and duty.
The department’s training unit wants both types of bullets in order to fill CSPD’s ammo stocks, records show. CSPD is comprised of about 225 police officers.
The only authorized law enforcement dealer for Speer and Federal Ammunition in the state is Florida Bullet, a company located in Oldsmar, officials said. Both ammo brands have the same parent company, Vista Outdoor, according to city records.
The police department will ask commissioners at Wednesday’s commission meeting to award the contract worth approximately $91,000 to Florida Bullet without competitive bidding.
The money would come from the city’s operating budget, records show.
City records published online ahead of Wednesday’s meeting did not indicate how many bullets would be purchased with the funds.
