A Coral Springs man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he sent violent threats to his wife, vandalized a vehicle, and violently resisted arrest, resulting in injuries to responding officers.
According to arrest reports filed by the Coral Springs Police Department, Wesley Elias Saunders, 23, was arrested on June 6 after a series of incidents that began several days earlier.
Police say that on June 2, Saunders began sending a series of disturbing Facebook and text messages to his wife, including statements like “I’m going to f—ing kill you,” “When I see you, you’re dead meat,” and “I’ll f—ing murder you and mutilate you.”
The victim told officers she feared for her life after receiving the messages and provided screenshots to police as evidence. Saunders later admitted to sending the threats, telling detectives he was angry and upset at the time. He also claims his anger stems from the victim allegedly sexually assaulting him in the past, yet no evidence of these claims was provided to law enforcement.
While investigating the threats, officers also learned that Saunders had recently damaged his wife’s father’s car using his skateboard. Saunders allegedly called police himself and confessed to smashing the vehicle’s windshield while it was parked overnight at a La Quinta Inn parking lot in Coral Springs.
When officers attempted to take Saunders into custody, he allegedly resisted arrest, struggled with officers, and scratched one officer, causing multiple minor injuries to the officer’s arm and face. Police say Saunders also tried to bite and spit on officers as they attempted to restrain him.
Records show Saunders was ultimately transported to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical evaluation before being booked into the Broward County Main Jail.
