Coral Springs Teen Confesses After Midnight Rock-Throwing Spree Damages Multiple Homes

A Coral Springs teenager is facing three felony charges after police say he terrorized a neighborhood by throwing large rocks that shattered glass windows and sliding doors at multiple neighboring homes.

According to Coral Springs Police, officers were called to the area of Royal Palm Boulevard around midnight on November 19 after residents reported loud banging noises and breaking glass. 

One of the victims told officers she had been asleep when several loud crashes woke her. Moments later, she heard her back sliding glass door shatter. Fearing a break-in, she grabbed her baby and hid in a closet with her husband while calling the police.

The report indicates the first victim’s neighbor told officers she also heard multiple loud noises outside. When she looked out an open window, she said she saw the man, later identified as Dalton Avery Tardif, 18, of Coral Springs, throwing rocks at the homes below. 

The woman told officers that when she yelled, “What are you doing?” she reported seeing him run around the corner of the building, followed by more breaking glass and the sound of a child crying. Moments later, she said she watched him run back into his residence near the 12000 block of Royal Palm Boulevard.

Officers went to the home and made contact with Tardif, who stepped outside and was detained without incident. The witness later positively identified him as the person she had seen throwing rocks.

While canvassing the area, officers found additional victims. One man told police he had been unaware of the incident until officers informed him that a bedroom window in his home had been shattered. 

Another resident said he and his wife were asleep when they heard glass break. They later discovered their sliding door had been smashed.

Detectives interviewed Tardif at the Coral Springs Police Department, and records show he gave a full confession, stating that he “lost his temper” and threw rocks that damaged several homes.

Tardif was transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He has since been released after posting $7,500 bond.
