Chief Brad Mock with the Coral Springs Police Department.
From Chief Brad Mock:
As summer gets underway, I hope you and your family are enjoying everything our community has to offer. This is a busy and exciting time of year, and I want to take a moment to share a few important safety reminders and updates.
As we prepare to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary of Independence Day, I encourage everyone to have fun and stay safe. I hope you’ll join us at the City’s Fourth of July Celebration at Mullins Park (10000 Ben Geiger Dr) beginning at 4 p.m. It’s always a great opportunity to spend time with family and friends and enjoy a safe fireworks display together. Whether you’re celebrating with us or elsewhere, please make safety a priority. Never drink and drive. If you plan to drink, designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service to get home safely.
With school out and families spending more time outdoors, water safety remains especially important. Please keep a close eye on children around pools and open water. Drowning can happen in a matter of seconds, and active supervision is the best way to prevent a tragedy. Flotation devices can be helpful, but they should never replace direct adult supervision.
Summer is also a time when we often see an increase in vehicle burglaries. July is National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month, making it a good reminder that many of these crimes are preventable. Please remove valuables and key fobs from your vehicle and always lock your doors. Taking a few extra seconds before walking away from your car can help protect your property and reduce opportunities for crime. Watch this quick safety reminder: Vehicle Burglary Prevention Tips.
If you’re planning to travel this summer, I encourage you to take advantage of our free Vacation Watch Program. If you’ll be away from home for more than five days, one of our officers can check on your property while you’re gone to help ensure everything appears secure. It’s a simple service that provides peace of mind while you’re away. Check out how it works: Vacation Watch Video.
I’m also proud to share that our Community Involvement Unit is currently hosting the Coral Springs Police Department’s 10th Annual Summer Youth Program. This free camp serves underserved youth in our community and continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of local children and families. Participants attend classes such as R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense), receive vision and dental screenings, enjoy educational field trips, and finish the program with back-to-school shopping alongside our officers. We also help provide school uniforms and supplies to prepare them for a successful school year. Watching this program grow over the past decade has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful to the officers, staff, volunteers, and community partners who make it possible.
Thank you for doing your part to help keep Coral Springs a safe place to live. Wishing you and your family a fun, relaxing, and safe summer. I hope to see you at Mullins Park on the 4th!
