More than 125,000 rapid at-home COVID-19 tests were distributed in nine participating cities.
Broward County, Broward County Libraries, and Broward County Emergency Management Division, in partnership with Florida Department of Hand participating municipalities, completed the successful distribution on December 30 and concluded at 6 p.m.on Friday, December 31.
Despite long lines at times, the drive-through events were very popular with residents and libraries.
The successful distribution of the at-home test kits was a team effort, according to a press release. County staff worked closely with the following municipalities and their respective law enforcement agencies to coordinate traffic flow in each location and the most efficient distribution of the test kits: Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Plantation, Pompano Beach, and Sunrise.
“I am so happy that we were able to first secure the test kits, and second, distribute them quickly and efficiently to so many Broward County residents,” said Broward County Mayor Michael Udine. “I also am very appreciative of the County and municipality staff who pulled together to make this public safety effort successful.”
Any test kits remaining after today’s distribution will be collected in a central location, and a plan created for distributing them promptly in the new year.
Mayor Udine also noted that the County would continue to request additional rapid test kits as long as they are available and public demand exists.
“Clearly, there is a demand for increased testing in Broward County,” said Mayor Udine. “We have listened to our residents, and we are responding.”
