When Cindy Brief became the CEO of the Coral Springs Chamber of Commerce 18 years ago, the office was a small trailer near the Heron Bay Golf Course.
She embarked on an on-the-job training course, studying chamber leadership and attending as many conferences as possible to learn from the experts. Under Brief’s leadership, the chamber grew, added new members, and played an essential role in Coral Springs’s economic growth.
At the Wake-Up Breakfast on January 14, chamber members celebrated her retirement from CEO and transition to a new position: vice president of Strategic Initiatives.
She received proclamations from Florida Senator Tina Polsky and Florida representatives Dan Daley and Christine Hunschofsky. Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brook complimented Brief on her work for the city, and her board of directors gave her a desk clock, a picture frame, and flowers.
Brief said one of her proudest accomplishments was leading the merger of the Coral Springs and Coconut Creek chambers to create the Coral Springs Coconut Creek Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2018. She was also proud of her work getting Coral Springs to allow monument signs in shopping centers.
Other accomplishments include earning recognition from the South Florida Business Journal as the sixth-best chamber in the region on June 22, 2024. Brief said she was proud to see the trustee program grow to more than 50 businesses.
She recalled moving into the new Coral Springs city hall building in 2018 after spending years working in a trailer.
“I hired Charinus Johnson-Davis, an amazing woman, three years ago as my successor. I told her that when I retired, she would have my position,” said Brief.
Davis has been promoted to CEO from her position as executive vice president.
Brief embraces her new role and will continue to advocate for the business community and work on special projects. She is looking forward to working on Broward Days, where groups from the local community meet with legislators in Tallahassee.
