Veterans helping veterans is the theme of the Veterans Coalition of Coral Springs.
Tom Bianco, the president of the Veterans Coalition, wants more military veterans to join and is concerned that some individuals have left the organization.
“We want to get younger veterans to join us. Our Coalition has helped veterans facing various problems,” said Bianco, who served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and spent time in Vietnam.
The Coalition and members of the Rotary Club of Coral Springs and the Rotary Club of Coral Springs-Parkland got together at Runyon’s on March 26 to enjoy some fellowship and promote their organizations.
An upcoming project for the Coalition is helping to bring the Moving Wall, a half-sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. that travels the nation, to Coconut Creek. Bianco is working with leaders from the city to make the necessary arrangements.
The Coalition meets every third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Hall in Coral Springs, 2503 Coral Springs Dr.
The Rotary Club of Coral Springs-Parkland also seeks individuals interested in community service projects. The organization has worked with In Jacob’s Shoes and Kids in Distress and provides college scholarships to graduating seniors in each of the Coral Springs and Parkland high schools.
“We are about service over self and care about the world. Some people join for fellowship,” said president-elect Sarah Berkowitz.
The Club meets on Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m. at the Parkland Golf and Country Club, 10001 Old Club Road, Parkland.
The Rotary Club of Coral Springs meets at Pizza Time, 11504 West Sample Road, each Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.
