Coral Springs City Commissioner Joshua Simmons has announced his campaign for mayor, highlighting a record focused on infrastructure investment, neighborhood stability, and long-term planning as he seeks to lead the city into its next phase of growth.
First elected to the City Commission in 2018 and term-limited in 2026, Simmons said his campaign will focus on maintaining Coral Springs’ quality of life through smart development, fiscal responsibility, and responsive local government.
“I’m running for mayor because Coral Springs needs a forward-thinking, people-centered vision for the future,” Simmons said in a statement. “We have great neighborhoods, top-rated schools, and engaged residents. My goal is to build on that foundation with thoughtful planning, smart investment, and leadership that brings people together to get things done.”
During his time on the commission, Simmons has emphasized public safety, mobility improvements, and infrastructure investment. The campaign notes that he helped secure more than $50 million in external funding for community projects and advocated for regional initiatives, including the Everglades Loop transportation project.
Simmons also served for seven years on the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization, where the campaign notes he secured nearly $10 million in transportation and mobility funding for Coral Springs. He currently chairs the National League of Cities’ Federal Advocacy Committee for Transportation and Infrastructure Services, working with municipal leaders nationwide on federal funding and policy issues impacting local governments.
“Local government is where people feel leadership most directly,” Simmons said. “Whether it’s roads, neighborhood safety, or how services respond when people need help, effective leadership matters. As mayor, I will always put Coral Springs first.”
According to his campaign, Simmons worked as an educator and mental health professional, experiences he says shaped his approach to public service. He has since developed a reputation among colleagues as a consensus builder focused on collaboration and practical solutions.
Simmons’ platform includes keeping the city affordable for families and seniors, maintaining strong police and fire services, protecting taxpayer dollars through transparent budgeting and planning for sustainable growth while preserving neighborhood character, according to his campaign.
Scott Brook, the current mayor and a candidate for reelection, became mayor on November 30, 2022, and on November 19, 2024. Brook served as a city commissioner from 2002, as Mayor from 2006 to 2010, and was elected Mayor again in March 2019 following the sudden passing of Mayor Skip Campbell in October 2018.
