Coral Glades 2022 graduate Angelo Smith was officially selected with the 529th pick in the 18th round during the 2025 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
Smith began playing baseball at the age of four and was also a four-year starter on the varsity baseball team at Coral Glades. During those four seasons, the Jaguars won 41 games, but it wasn’t until his senior year that Coach Joe Franco turned Smith into a pitcher.
“I’m so proud of Angelo and the work he’s put in for his dream to become a reality,” Franco said. “He played four years for me at Coral Glades and really grew up in my program.”
Smith began his collegiate career at Indian River State College, where he went 6-3 and had 80 strikeouts in 68.2 innings. Smith went on to play at the University of Central Florida and made 14 appearances, including one save, while leading the team with a 2.83 ERA.
Smith becomes the third player in Coral Glades history to be drafted, joining Rian Spanjer Furstenburg in 2009 and Alexander Kline in 2016.
