Officer Andrae Kirk {Coral Springs Police}
Officer Andrae Kirk has worn many uniforms throughout his life, including those of a college football standout, NFL linebacker, and Coral Springs Police officer. Now he’s taking on a new role—that of children’s book author and storyteller.
Kirk, a member of the Coral Springs Police Department and former linebacker at Florida Atlantic University who signed with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals in 2015 as an undrafted free agent, will read his debut book, Officer Friendly, at the Coral Springs Museum of Art’s Family Day festivities.
The day’s events begin at 12:30 p.m. at the museum at 2855A Coral Springs Dr., with Kirk’s story time scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
The Coral Springs Police Department is asking families who plan to attend to comment “Book” on the department’s Facebook post announcing the event to receive an RSVP link.
Copies of Officer Friendly will be available at the event, and Kirk will be on hand to sign them after the reading.
Admission to the Family Day event is free and open to the public. The event is promoted as an afternoon of creativity and community, with arts and crafts, interactive activities, and opportunities for children to engage with first responders.
Kirk’s illustrated children’s book, published this June, introduces young readers to a positive, community-minded police officer. Kirk wrote it with the intention of fostering trust between children and law enforcement, hoping to reshape perceptions and build relationships from a young age.
“This book shares a powerful message – that our officers are not to be feared but seen as role models and friends,” states the book’s promotional material. “It fosters a sense of security among children, assuring them that they are safe, protected, and cared for.”
Kirk’s journey to public service began after his football career ended. He earned a degree in criminal justice and a master’s in public administration from FAU, eventually joining CSPD.
Today, he’s not only patrolling the streets but also speaking in schools, mentoring youth, and now, writing for them.
“This feels like something that is a big deal to me,” Kirk said in a recent video about becoming a published author.
