Coral Glades High School’s Student Law Association partnered with Democracy First, Fostering Futures, and Model UN to host its annual Know Your Rights Seminar on November 22.
The event drew an audience of around 200 students eager to learn about their legal rights and responsibilities.
According to co-president Alyssa Harris, the seminar featured a diverse lineup of guest speakers, including Nadene Reynolds, Assistant State Attorney; Alan Mishael, a lawyer specializing in adoption and child welfare law; Krissa Ericson, a Foster Care Services supervisor at Broward County Public Schools; and Coral Springs Police Officers Tim Burton and Taylor Anderson.
Each speaker offered unique insights into various aspects of the law, fostering an engaging and educational environment for attendees.
Students had the opportunity to ask questions and gain practical knowledge about their rights as individuals and students in Broward County. The event also served as a valuable recruitment tool for the school’s law program and Student Law Association, which continues to grow in popularity.
Coral Glades High offers a comprehensive four-year law program, allowing students to take exams to earn an Accredited Legal Professional certification and apply for internships at local law firms during their senior year.
Co-presidents Harris and Arianna Panchoo are already looking forward to hosting next year’s seminar and expanding opportunities for students to explore careers in the legal field.
