On Sunday, the Coral Springs community gathered for a large Chanukah celebration at the Sportsplex Park near Coral Glades High School.
The event featured many activities for families and children, including bumper cars, an inflatable slide, a climbing wall, pony rides, laser tag, and bungee jumping.
Live music entertained attendees while teenagers played football and socialized. Families enjoyed dinner options such as hotdogs, hamburgers, and sufganiyot, the traditional jelly doughnuts associated with the holiday.
Rabbi Yankie Denburg of the Chabad Jewish Center spoke about the significance of Chanukah.
“We celebrate the miracle of Chanukah and the miracle of religious freedom. We celebrate the triumph of light over darkness.”
Yael Hanover, who attended with her children, appreciated the festive atmosphere and the public holiday celebration.
Commissioner Joshua Simmons. said it was great to see the Jewish community coming together for such a family-friendly event.
In keeping with tradition, Rabbi Denburg was elevated above the crowd and threw gelt, or chocolate coins, to the children, encouraging older participants to share with younger ones.
The event ended with the lighting of five candles on the menorah by Rabbi Denburg and local community leaders. Coral Springs City Manager Catherine Givens and Simmons also lit a candle.
Chabad Jewish Center, Chabad of Coral Springs, Israeli Chabad Center, and Lubavitch Hebrew Academy organized the celebration.
