The Coral Springs Charter School softball team captured a Regional Championship with an impressive victory over Cardinal Gibbons High School.
Facing the Chiefs for the third time this season, CSC finally broke through when it mattered most. Cardinal Gibbons entered the matchup ranked third in the state and 19th nationally, and had previously defeated the Panthers in extra innings in both the Big-8 and District Tournament.
Coral Springs Charter got on the board early following a home run from Cam Thiele. Jazzy Chung later added a two-run homer to extend the lead to 3-0, while Courtney Wahlbrink dominated in the circle. Wahlbrink held Cardinal Gibbons hitless through six innings, and despite allowing a pair of hits in the seventh, the Panthers held on for a 3-1 victory.
“One of our most gratifying wins since we’ve been at CSC for sure,” Head Coach Mark Montimurro said. “We have been working on shortening our swings and eliminating the strikeout. Our girls did a great job executing the game plan, and Wahlbrink was spectacular as usual.”
The Panthers improved to 21-4 this season and will advance to the State Championship for the first time since 2022. CSC last won a state title in 2019 and has now gone 328-39 under Montimurro during the past 14 seasons.
