The postseason in Coral Springs has delivered several exciting matchups in softball, with one team still alive in pursuit of a state championship.
Coral Springs Charter has already defeated Pompano Beach High School twice this postseason, winning 11-1 in the District Semifinals and 17-0 in the Regional Quarterfinals. Despite falling to Cardinal Gibbons High School in the District Final, the Panthers earned another shot at the Chiefs following a dramatic 3-2 victory over Somerset Academy on Tuesday night.
CSC railed 2-0 before rallying with three runs in the sixth inning. Cam Thiele drove in the Panthers’ first run before Addi Brown delivered a two-run double to put her team in front. Courtney Wahlbrink took care of the rest in the circle, striking out 11 batters to send the Panthers into the Regional Final on Thursday, May 14 at 4 p.m.
Cardinal Gibbons enters the matchup with a 19-1 record, ranked third in the state and 17th nationally. The Chiefs advanced through Regionals with wins over Mater Lakes Academy and St. Brendan High School after previously earning two walk-off victories against the Panthers this season.
Meanwhile, Coral Glades also qualified for Regionals after winning 11 games this season. The Jaguars earned the fifth seed despite a loss to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the District Semifinals and battled West Broward High School in a tightly contested Regional matchup.
Coral Glades ultimately fell 3-1 despite an RBI from Elisa Salas. The Bobcats scored in the opening inning before the Jaguars answered to tie the game. West Broward, however, added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the win. Haleigh Thomas and Addison Schwartzberg combined to allow only one earned run in the loss.
Elsewhere, Coral Springs High School entered District play as the third seed but lost 11-0 to Monarch High School. The Colts still finished the season with a 9-5-1 record. J. P. Taravella also saw its season come to an end following a 7-0 loss to Western High School, finishing the year with a 7-6 mark.
