Coral Springs resident and rapper Kodak Black was arrested in Pompano Beach on charges of fleeing law enforcement and resisting an officer, just days after bonding out in an Orange County drug case.
According to Broward County arrest records, Kodak Black, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, 28, was arrested by Pompano Beach Police on charges of attempting to flee and elude law enforcement and resisting an officer without violence.
Kapri, a Pompano Beach native, became a Coral Springs resident after purchasing a 6,506-square-foot home in the city for $1.8 million in February 2022.
Records show Kapri was booked into Broward County Main Jail and was awaiting a bond hearing.
TMZ reported Thursday that Kodak Black’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, described the arrest as a “self-surrender” tied to what he called a lengthy and questionable investigation.
“This is a self-surrender from yet another ‘investigation’ that just happened to also take 5 months to ‘investigate’ for allegedly fleeing and eluding,” Cohen told TMZ.
Cohen added, “It’s not unexpected, as this is usually the procedure we go through where there is an unfounded weak arrest and then followed up by yet another arrest for cases that allegedly take 5 or 6 months to investigate. At this point, I think everyone agrees that Kodak is consistently being targeted.”
The new arrest comes shortly after the rapper bonded out of jail in Orange County following an unrelated arrest connected to an alleged drug trafficking investigation in Central Florida.
Court documents from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office state that deputies discovered a bag containing MDMA and other suspected illegal substances inside a Lamborghini SUV reportedly owned by Kapri.
According to investigators, Kapri denied ownership of the bag but allegedly told deputies that the cash found inside belonged to his business and requested the money be returned.
Kapri later pleaded not guilty to the drug trafficking charge and is currently awaiting a jury trial in that case.
