The Coral Springs Charter softball team earned their 11th win of the season on Monday during Senior Night against Dwyer.
Stephanie Basso, Alivia Taibl, Kate Maston, and Kayleigh Cuccia were recognized. Basso was one of the best catchers in school history and will play in college at Coastal Carolina University.
Head Coach Mark Montimurro says Taibl has been a stalwart outfielder for the team and will be playing college softball at Stetson University after committing darling this year. Maston began her high school career playing baseball before switching to softball. She will play at Florida Gulf Coast University next year while Cuccia took a giant step as a senior.
“Kayleigh took a leap of faith her senior year, leaving a comfortable situation in search of something that would challenge her,” Montimurro said. “Most kids are going with the comfort zone. Kayleigh has really been a blessing to coach, and she’s brought an invaluable veteran presence to our group.”
During the game, Gio Gurgel hit a game-winning two-run homer in the sixth, while Courtney Wahlbrink tossed a complete game shutout with 13 strikeouts. Addi Michel, Taibl, Cuccia, and Maston all had hits in the game.
Next, CSC will play Fort Lauderdale High School on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Then Flying L’s are 7-7 this year and lost 6-3 in this only meeting last season against the Panthers.
