Local chess enthusiasts are gearing up for a regal battle at the King of Coral Springs Chess Tournament on Saturday, June 1, at 9 a.m.
This annual event, hosted by the Coral Springs Parks and Recreation Department, takes place at Coral Springs Charter School, 3205 N. University Dr.
The tournament has two age divisions: Elementary School (Ages 5-11) and Middle and High School (Ages 12-18). Partnering with the National Scholastic Chess Foundation (NSCF), the competition will adhere to U.S. Chess Federation rules, although it will not be rated by the Federation.
In line with chess’s educational benefits, notation is required at all NSCF events, with score sheets provided. While clocks are not mandatory, officials may introduce them if matches are approaching the time limit.
Participation in the King of Chess tournament is free, but pre-registration is mandatory for all players. Lunch will be provided for students competing in the event. Check-in will take place from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., with matches commencing promptly at 9 a.m.
