Gardening enthusiasts and those eager to test their green thumbs can now rejoice as the Coral Springs Community Garden has completed its expansion in partnership with the Rotary Club.
Located at 2915 Sportsplex Drive, the garden’s transformation has almost doubled the number of available flower and plant beds, making it a thriving hub for both seasoned gardeners and newcomers.
Previously housing 54 beds, the garden now boasts more than 100 beds available for community use, making it one of the city’s go-to destinations for greenery and horticultural endeavors.
Garden beds are accessible for a nominal fee of $60 annually for existing members and $120 for new members. This fee allows gardeners to reserve and cultivate their chosen beds for an entire year.
In addition to the increased number of beds, the Coral Springs Community Garden has introduced exciting features, including an educational garden and a children’s garden.
Volunteers plan to use these areas to host various classes, workshops, and field trips to promote knowledge and awareness of Florida gardening and sustainable practices.
Dr. Andrea Lemaitre, Coral Springs Sustainability Manager, expressed her enthusiasm for the expansion, “The Community Garden is a hidden gem in our city that is made successful by our residents and dedicated volunteers.
She added that the expansion enhances the space for current gardeners, welcomes new gardeners, and provides new opportunities for education about native species, the importance of green spaces in cities, wildlife conservation, and healthy food and habits for our residents.
“This is another great way we are all building a Sustainable Coral Springs together.”
As part of the project, a brand new Community Garden Pavilion has been constructed, named in memory of Kevin Connor, Jr.
The pavilion construction was made possible through the joint efforts of Coral Springs Rotary Club President Stef Verleysen, former Coral Springs Mayor Roy Gold, Susan Connor, owner of P&H Interiors, and the Levitetz Family Foundation. The pavilion is a shaded gathering spot, perfect for picnics and community events.
“The Community Garden is a passion of mine, so to see the completion of the pavilion, the addition of more beds, and new education opportunities is truly the culmination of years of hard work and combined efforts to bring more environmental features and knowledge to the community,” said Coral Springs Rotary Club President Stef Verleysen.
Established in 2009, the Coral Springs Community Garden is a collaborative effort between the City of Coral Springs, the Coral Springs Rotary Club, and dedicated local volunteers.
Interested individuals, families, or groups can secure their bed reservation via the city’s website. For more information about the garden, including how to get involved, visit CoralSprings.gov/Garden.
This expansion of the Coral Springs Community Garden not only enriches the city’s green spaces but also provides a platform for community engagement and learning, fostering a more sustainable and environmentally conscious Coral Springs.
