Coral Springs-Parkland firefighters are heroes after rescuing an elderly female trapped inside her smoke-filled apartment.
At approximately 7:07 pm. Sunday night, Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department responded to a working structure fire at Sherwood Square at 1225 Riverside Drive. When their crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from a 5th-floor apartment.
The firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 10 minutes of their arrival, however, during this time a witness told them of an elderly female who was trapped inside her apartment. They rushed to investigate and found her inside her apartment which was filled with smoke. She was unable to get out on her own.
In a statement posted, they wrote: “Thank God we found her in time or the situation could have been so much worse.”
Also, during their cleanup, they were also able to retrieve some baby supplies for a family who was not able to get back into their apartment.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
