Over 70 vendors welcomed a crowd of shoppers to the Coral Springs Mega Green Market on Saturday, some even running out of merchandise during the day.
Coral Springs Mayor Vince Boccard who attended the inaugural opening said they had talked about getting a green market for years. “At the Visioning Summit, people talked about wanting a Green Market, but it was just a matter of finding the right company to run it,” said Boccard.
That’s when they found Jason Hershin, CEO of Greenmarket Events. Hershin, who oversees the Delray Indoor Greenmarket and the Boca Green Market, worked closely with City Manager Erdal Donmez. He said he was pleased with the turnout on the first day. “It was fantastic, well-received, well-supported and a well-wanted event. I’m very pleased that Coral Springs now has it,” said Hershin.
Hershin will have special events each week at the market. This week they featured both Spiderman and Snow White characters walking around the crowds. Next week, he will be bringing in a pirate show along with a face painter and will have puppy adoptions.
As part of revitalizing downtown, Boccard says that as the marketplace grows, he wants to incorporate events to tie in with it.
The market has something for everyone. There are fruits, vegetables, prepared foods, pastries, crafts, dog treats, honey, educational vendors, restaurants and cosmetics.
The Green Market runs every Saturday year-round from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Market is located in Downtown Coral Springs, at 9400 W. Sample Road.
